Do you own a computer or 10; covered under a warranty then by all means take it to the shop where you purchased it, when something goes wrong. Say you did purchase that extended warranty didn't you. Where did you buy your compute? Did they have an on site repair staff? Interesting questions; yes?
Have you ever purchased a computer from the world's largest retailer; I have, 2 in fact; but a question comes to mind what do the sale personal in the stores of the world's largest retailer say if you were to call them on the phone and ask about a technical problem? Have you even seen, a computer tech rep in the world's largest retailer? Think about it; how do you get your computer repaired when you purchase it from the world's largest retailer. I don't know I have never asked that question of the sales staff in the electronics section of the world's largest retailer!
For myself it doesn't bother me where I buy my computers why well I have only purchase 3 new computers the first 4 years ago my laptop, using it to write this article. The second and third were both purchased from the world's largest retailer. When I had a problem or 2 with one of the computers I didn't contact the world's largest retailer instead I contacted the manufacture and they said this is a Repair Order Number; call this number and make arrangements to ship it to the repair shop.
Why in blue blazes would I want to box up my computer and send it to a repair shop to fix a minor problem? Pay for shipping and be without the use of the computer on the chance that they may, be able to make the repair without loosing all the data and programs that I spent days inputting on the computer?
Instead I decided that I would search the Internet and find out how to learn to do the repair myself. My search was interesting. Spent 3 days looking for information on self computer repair. Kept coming back to a certain website as I didn't understand how to order books on Amazon and the reviews of the books on the site didn't make much sense to me because I didn't understand Geek or what ever language computer persons speak in.
What is Java, Java Script, Microsoft Works, Batch files, FireFox, Command Prompts, File Extensions, DOS, X-a-cute-able-file-extension's, Services. Devices, Device Manager, System Manager, Services Manager, IP Address, Domain Name Service (DNS) Networking, Disk Manager, Task Manager? I shore had no Idea and I bet most of you don't either!
At the web site the one that I kept coming back to the guy who had these e-books for sale said that he wrote the books in plane understandable language and not in geek. Hay understand this I was 52 years old; yes I have an electronics back ground! Yes I managed an alarm system company; designed fire, burglar, and hold up alarm systems installed and maintained them. Yes I know what an analog system is also a digital system, yes I know my electricial theory.
But I didn't know a thing about computers except for taking a 3 week DOS class 4 years before. But at this website this Guy is saying that he is going to teach me how to understand computer repair in a language that I am going to understand. Hay that is cool English not Geek, not Japanese ( I can or use to speak that language Korean too). His name is Monte Russell, Collage educated in Computers with degrees a mile long and a 20 veteran of working on computers, servers.
Monte Russell's books are for the Do It Yourself kind of person. Think about that this guy writes these books for guys and gals that are like me a Do It Yourself Computer Repair person that is what I want to be!! Why, do I need to pay for some technician to fix my computers. Except for what I read in Windows Help on my laptop when dragging it around the world on a ship, learning all I can by spending hours reading about this and that on what makes my laptop work. In spite of all that information in Windows Help; believe me I learned and learned; but I still didn't know enough, so much didn't make sense to me.
So I spent 20 minutes reading everything I could on his website DIY-computer-repair.com. He had this package deal 3 e-books at a discount price. Self Computer Repair, Build A Custom Computer, and Upgrade Your Computer so I ordered the books in a download form could have gotten them sent to me in printed form but hay, why; have a computer, you can have e-books to read, I am getting into the current times.
This was the best decisions I have made in a long time. Now I know how to repair my computers, now I know how to build a custom computer, now I know how to upgrade my computers and I can relate to spoken Geek or written Geek.
In the 4 years since buying my first computer knowing not enough to even turn it on. I have repaired (rebuilt) 2; built a server, upgraded my computers built 3 and will never buy a desk top computer again. Laptops are a different thing entirely. Up grade them yes, optimized them and any Windows Operating System.
But more so than that I have a friend who I have never met in person who has taught me more than any one ever could about the Internet, computers, how processors work, how the video display works, what memory is, how to make a computer work faster, how to keep a computer from crashing. Most important I do not have to pay a computer tech a lot of money to do repairs, to up grade a computer or to purchase a custom computer.
I can email Monte Russell if I have a question on how to do something and he will explain in simple English how to do it.
His latest book: DIY- Self Computer Repair, Unleashed which has more information that the other e-books combined is great reading, and I am still constantly referring to the book in my self study of computers. Many of the chapters and subject that he covers have cleared up much of what I found confusing and difficult to understand. DIY SELF COMPUTER REPAIR, UNLEASHED is my reference manual and it should be yours.
If you are interested in the history of the modern day computer that is so affordable for everyday usage, or if you want to build your own Gaming Computer that uses 3D Graphic Cards and has a 200 watt sound card with surround HD sound system the information is in the book.
Want to learn more about Solid State Hard Drives (SSD's) read the book. Want to make a Bootable Flash Drive, Read your copy of the book.
Interested in learning how to build a server that you can use to back up your files, your operating system, called a NAS (Network Attached Storage) Server from an old computer or build a new one. The information is in your copy of Self Computer Repair, Unleashed clicking on the blue title of the book will take you to the website and you can decide for yourself if it is worth your time and investment. Why buy a computer when you can build your own from the knowledge you will have from your copy of the book.
Think of it this way for less than an hour of billable time of what it will cost you to have a "Geek group" type store optimize your computer and set up your home network you can do it yourself. In this day of an uncertain economy can you really afford not to?
I know for a fact that I am living proof that a nearly over the hill man now computer literate has more working knowledge of computers in less than 4 years than my 2 sons who went to collage to learn Computer Science from what I learned from this book. They have been using computers since they were 8 and 10 years old respectively.
That my self education in computers didn't cost me any where near what it did to send my sons to Collage for nearly 2 years to get their education in the field. Dad repairs the computers in the house not my sons.
Thank you for reading this post I truly hope that you will benefit from the information that I have provided you.
